Full Hunter Moon October 2022
The full hunter moon is the final moon under which harvests are conducted in the Northern hemisphere. This is a time of preparation and release. And while those two concepts may seem to be counter-intuitive, they really aren’t.
The Hunter moon is a time to Hunt - and search - and forage…not just literally but figuratively too. It’s the time of the year when animals have been fattened up and are ripe for the hunt in preparation for the winter…it’s a time to make final preparations for the winter and to pick late harvests…but it’s also a time to dig deep into what worked this year and what didn’t…and it’s time to release that which didn’t work for us.
It’s a time to look back to Spring when we set intentions and planted seeds…which seeds grew and which failed…and why did they fail? Again, both in our own physical gardens and within ourselves. Did we set intentions for growing our business and then those intentions fell flat? If so why? Were we practicing self-sabotage behaviours? Is it time to Hunt down those behaviours and slay them under this moon? I think so!
In order to assist you in hunting down your self sabotage behaviours, I’ve prepared a new mediation and posted it on YouTube (Self Sabotage Release Meditation) This guided meditation is specifically prepared to assist you with releasing behaviours that are preventing you from growth. The Full Moon is the best time to begin a practice of releasing self limiting behaviours.
Your October Altar: Reds, Oranges, Yellows and Browns are the colours for a Hunter Moon Altar. Use coloured leaves, a mini-pumpkin or gourd, twigs and pussy willows or cat tails. Yellow and Orange Candles will bring a sense of warmth and comfort to your altar.
RITUAL FOR FULL HUNTER MOON
You’ll need: a bowl of water, pen or marker(s) that are non-permanent - one’s that will run when exposed to water, paper, a candle for meditation - colour of your choice, a place where you can return the water in your bowl to Mother Earth. If you live in an apartment, you may need a bottle or jar to transport your water to a garden.
Cast your circle as you normally would and call in your guides, elementals and anything else that you feel guided to call in. Light a candle, ground and centre yourself.
When you are ready, take your paper and pens/markers and begin to write that which doesn’t serve you anymore on your paper - this can include emotions that are detrimental and that you’d like to tone down (you can’t fully release emotions but you can tame them), self sabotaging behaviours, time wasters like scrolling FB or watching cat videos, your lack of motivation to post regularly, your speciality in procrastination - these are only a few…write, and be creative, draw pictures too if that’s what you’re called to do. When you are satisfied, bring feeling into the page, read and re-read the page, with the full knowledge and intention that this is what you choose to release.
When you’re ready, dip the page into the bowl of water…watch as the ink smudges and gets messy (afterall, sometimes releasing can be messy), watch as the ink disappears, and really feel these things leaving your psyche. If you are called to do so, use your fingers to wash the paper.
When the page is clean, set it somewhere to dry. Take the bowl of water into your garden and release, with intention, the water/ink into Mother Earth. Rinse the bowl with a hose or another bowl of water as you don’t want to have residue left in the bowl. If you live in an apartment, pour the water into your bottle or jar and transport the bottle or jar to where you can release the water/ink back to Mother Earth. Do not release into pavement or other hard surface. Dispose of the bottle or jar away from your home too - it will contain energetic residue from your spell that you don’t want returned to your home.
Return to your altar space and meditate…meditate on what you will continue to let go of as the moon wanes in the coming days. You may want to place the blank page upon your altar until the New Moon, as a reminder of the clean slate that you’ve created.
During the next New Moon, you may choose to use the “clean slate, dried” piece of paper to set new positive intentions. Alternatively you may choose to dispose of the paper outside of the home. It’s up to you depending on your beliefs.
In Love and Light - enjoy dancing under the light of this full moon…as it’s the last full moon before Samhain/Halloween/Day of the Dead…join me October 30th for a Special Mediumship Class being offered especially in honour of Samhain!
