Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde...starts tomorrow...

Let's start at the beginning - what is Mercury Retrograde?

The smallest planet in our solar system goes around and around - like all of the planets...but at times, (several times per year) Mercury appears to be moving backwards/away from our planet - this is known as Mercury Retrograde.

Each planet in our solar system has different energies and when the planets move about, their energy also affects us...Mercury is has the energy of communication...(I'll include a list at the bottom of this post of the energies of all of the planets).

So when Mercury goes Retrograde, the energy of communication can get mixed up - like anything going in reverse, it's more difficult. Think about having to back your car up a narrow street...it was far easier to drive up the street frontwards, but having to back up is more difficult. That's a pretty good analogy for the planet of communication going retrograde - actually for any planet going retrograde - it's going to make the energy ruling that planet a wee bit more complex for those of us on Earth.

Now, having said that, it's not all bad...we do after all still have Free Will - in other words, we can choose how to react, how to respond...

You can choose to jump at someone for "their tone of voice" or you can choose to accept that perhaps they meant no ill intent and that's just the tone they use. You can choose to go into a "woe is me" energy at this time, or you can head out the door in full defiance and yell at the sky, you can't influence me...yes seriously, you can!

You see, when we are unconscious of the energies that influence us, we can sometimes be like puppets - we are under the control of some unseen force. But when we are aware, we have choice! There's a saying; We always have a choice - if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

So right now, you can choose to go forward with your day to day, knowing that things might not run as smoothly as at other times but acceptance of that helps us to process and proceed ahead - we are not victims. Or you can choose to hole up in the house until Mercury Retrograde ends because you just can't face another crappy day. It's still a choice.

So how might we feel under Mercury Retrograde? For some, they'll be more energetic, yet almost chaotic. Others will feel lethargic. I find that if you've got something hanging over your head, a decision that needs to be made, a conversation that needs to be held, if you've been procrastinating, then Mercury Retrograde is going to make you feel even more lethargic as you put things off. But if you're feeling motivated at this time - if you've got things cooking so to speak, a new project, you may feel extra energized, to the point of being kept awake at night thinking about new ideas for your project.

One last note - despite how you feel during a Mercury Retrograde, it is still suggested that you don't sign any important contracts during this energy. Communication misunderstandings can still occur despite our intentions to remain positive.
